hello from Japan!

Just wanted to say a quick hello to you all. I`m safe arrived in Hakodate whee! Haven`t met my host family yet, but that`s later today. They made us go straight from the airport to the Center to take the placement test--which I think was rather mean of them, seeing as we got up at 4am--but hey, that`s like 3pm east coast time, right? (lol).
K, gtg, i still have the oral part of my placement exam to go, but more later!
Awww, that was so nice Adam! I will write something detailed soon, as well :)

Instead of putting on my "business casual" outfit, I'd like to compile a list of some great moments living with/near Jon Barsa. Sadly, I only have time for 3 right now, but there are like 12,000 more.

1) The Contract. Before I move in junior year, he presents me with a contract stipulating that "Adam must keep his shirt on at all times," among other terms. This contract is probably the most official thing I've ever seen, and I was even worried that I wouldn't be able to find a notary. Sadly, no notarization was required, and double sadly, my shirt was off a good 60 percent of the time.

2) The snoring. Jon was snoring, so I tried to think of a humane way to wake him up slightly so that he would drift back into his normal cherubic sleep. Instead of dealing with it like an adult, I threw quarters at his wall right above his slumbering body. It took about $2.00 worth, but finally I hear an, "Adam, what the fuck are you doing?" from the other side of the room. I tried a "what, me, throw quarters?" but Jon is too smart for that sort of thing.

3) I used to always ask Jon to quiz me on stuff from his classes, as a sort of macho posturing. Never do this for "Genesis and Collapse of Old World Civilizations." You get asked stuff like, "How many tons of maize did famous Sumerian Margaret Scotti eat in 1907 B.C." making you feel very dumb.

Hey, this is fun! There's a mini-reunion here in NYC on Thursday night, so any in the area should definitely stop by. Others are here in spirit and in my thoughts.

Affectionately,
Shpigel
